Debuting in 1998
with four NHL clubs participating , this four-day premier prospects
tournament has grown to become a popular attraction in Northern Michigan,
expanding to eight clubs (Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus
Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, New York
Rangers and St. Louis Blues), representing five of six divisions of the
Eastern and Western Conferences of the NHL. The tourney's founder and host,
the Detroit Red Wings, collaborate with hundreds of Traverse City area
volunteers to make the prospects tourney a first class, exciting and
memorable experience for all. Teams are divided into two divisions for a
three-day round robin tournament, then ranked by their win-loss records for
final placement in 7th, 5th, 3rd and Championship games on the final day.
The winning team is presented with a plaque to take home and their name
engraved onto a permanent trophy displayed year-round at Centre ICE Arena.
This year's tourney will be held September 11, 12, 14 and 15, 2010.
